Control the network before planning the work

For Indian CGD, PNGRB T4S limits sectionalising valve spacing to 3 km for high-pressure networks and 1 km for low-pressure networks. Spacing establishes network segmentation, not proof that each installed valve will close.
PNGRB T4S also sets annual tests for regulators, slam-shut valves and relief valves. It does not state one universal test interval for mainline ball valves.

Use criticality tiers for dispersed assets
Not every valve carries the same isolation consequence or evidence gap. Criticality helps direct field attention without treating lower-ranked assets as optional.
- Isolation duty: identify the customers, stations or network section affected.
- Access: record chamber condition, identification and operating clearance.
- Service severity: consider pressure tier, contamination history and past faults.
- Evidence age: identify valves with old, incomplete or non-repeatable test records.
- Failure history: raise attention where travel or seat results are worsening.

Make chamber work repeatable
Each visit should confirm identity, access, visible condition and the approved operating state. Record water entry, debris or access restrictions as findings, not informal notes.
Pressure movement, flow indication and sound may suggest a passing seat. They are screening evidence only. Use an approved confirming test before recording a seat failure.
- Verify the asset tag and network drawing against the physical valve.
- Review the authorised movement and isolation plan before operation.
- Observe travel, actuator or key response, stops and abnormal resistance.
- Complete the approved closure test where the network configuration permits.
- Record findings, restrictions, photographs and the next action against that valve.
Control treatment across the network
A standard product list does not make every CGD valve suitable for injection. Valve design, gas service and fitting condition still vary.
Before cleaner, lubricant or sealant is considered, fittings must be in good condition. The design and service must suit injection, OEM guidance must allow it, and operations must permit the work.
