- Screen first, then confirm. Close the valve fully. Watch downstream pressure, flow and sound. These signs suggest passing. Confirm with a proper seat test, such as pressure decay or a bleed check.
- Check the gates. Injection needs fittings in good condition, a valve design that suits it, and permission from operations. Without these, get an assessment first.
- If the valve is also hard to operate: screening points to debris and dried deposits. Where the gates pass, cleaner injection and careful cycling is the usual first step. Test the seat again after.
- If it moves freely but still passes: screening points to seat surface damage or lost sealant. In suitable valves, cleaner then controlled sealant injection can restore the seal.
- If correct injection has already failed, or damage is severe: sealant cannot bridge large damage. Plan repair or replacement, and take specialist advice on interim isolation.
