The valves and their duty
The testbed carried two 8 inch geared ball valves in gas service. A research testbed must behave like the networks it represents, valves included.
Geared ball valves add a gearbox between the operator and the ball. Their service still centres on the seats, cavity and sealant injection points.
The institute was evaluating valve maintenance methods for its own gas programme. It wanted proof in real field conditions, not a catalogue claim.
Proof on the institute's own valves removed any doubt about transferability. Field conditions expose the details a laboratory bench cannot show.
The intervention
We ran an on-site demonstration on the two geared testbed valves.
- Our engineer worked through the full service sequence on both ball valves.
- The visit included hands-on training with the sealant injection gun.
- The institute's own people handled the gun under supervision during the training.
Training matters here because a testbed team will repeat the procedure without us. A demonstration that transfers the skill is worth more than one that performs it.
Hands-on time at the valve is where questions about the method get answered. Each trainee saw the checks that come before any injection begins.

The result
The institute wrote that the demonstration was completed successfully and that it was satisfied. It then ordered the complete injection kit with cleaner for its programme.
