Remove an injection gun from field service when it leaks, delivers unevenly, shows damaged pressure parts or lacks reliable identity and records. Repair requires competent inspection, correct parts and controlled pressure testing away from a live valve. Retire equipment when safe condition or dependable function cannot be shown.

1. Treat warning signs as reasons to stop
An injection gun is part of a high-pressure system. A small defect can affect pressure control, product delivery or operator protection.
Common warning signs include visible leakage, damaged threads, distorted connections, unreadable indication and unstable controls. Uneven delivery or repeated loss of output also warrants assessment.
These signs do not prove one internal fault. Quarantine the gun, identify the symptom and prevent unrecorded return to use.

2. Separate gun, hose and valve behaviour
Pressure response belongs to the complete injection path. The gun, hose, coupler, adapter, fitting and valve passage can each affect it.
Fast pressure rise may suggest blockage or restricted uptake. It does not prove the gun is healthy, and it does not prove product reached the intended point.
Connection leakage, hose movement or changing resistance requires stop-work and reassessment. Do not keep operating the gun to identify the fault under live conditions.
Inspect the hoses, couplers and adapters as controlled equipment with their own identity and records.
3. Quarantine before repair assessment
Mark the equipment unavailable and record why it left service. Keep it separate from field-ready guns until a competent person closes the defect.
- Record identity, observed symptom, product used and operating context.
- Protect open connections and retain related components for assessment.
- Review previous service, test and repeat-fault history.
- Send the complete relevant system to an approved service setting.
Do not use a live valve as a test fixture. Do not defeat a relief feature, pressure indication or control to keep a gun operating.

4. What a repair decision must establish
Repair is reasonable only when the gun can return to known condition. The service provider needs the correct equipment information, parts and maker requirements.
- The pressure-containing body and connections remain acceptable for assessment.
- The fault can be identified without unsupported modification or substitute parts.
- Controls, seals and delivery components can be restored to specified function.
- Required inspection and test evidence can be produced and recorded.
- Repeated-fault history does not show an unresolved underlying condition.
Repair cost is only one category. Include assessment, parts, labour, controlled testing, transport, downtime and the remaining uncertainty.
5. Pressure testing is an acceptance gate
Visual inspection alone cannot show that repaired high-pressure equipment is fit for service. Testing must follow the maker's requirements and an approved procedure.
Use a suitable controlled facility, trained people, barriers, calibrated indication and a compatible test medium. The procedure must define acceptance, hold points and safe release of stored energy.
This article does not provide a pressure-test procedure. Test pressure, duration and configuration depend on the exact equipment and maker requirements.

6. Retirement criteria protect field decisions
Retire the gun when identity, pressure rating or service history cannot be established. Retirement is also appropriate when pressure parts are unacceptable or correct repair parts are unavailable.
Repeated faults after competent repair can show that dependable function is no longer supported. Failed acceptance testing is a clear barrier to field return.
Destroy or control retired equipment under the owner's procedure so it cannot re-enter stock. Keep the retirement record against the equipment identity.
